Does anything beat the winter chills more than cranking up the oven and churning out wonderful warm baked goods on a rainy day?
It was perfect baking weather today and thankfully being the weekend the HTC was home to help with kiddy duties, so I stationed myself in the kitchen and got to work.
I made a version of my grandma's sausage rolls, which are easily the best thing I have ever tasted. She was actually over in Adelaide when we were preparing for my baby shower last year and I got to witness her making them for the first time in years and it was amazing. Every single time, she has just enough mince inside to roll it to perfection, and you could have measured the length of each little roll with a ruler and I am sure they would have all been within a millimetre of each other. I marvelled at the art she had made of it, although as she did point out, she has had some 70 years of practice at it!
I have tried to make these a couple of times before but each time have rang grandma for the recipe and to check things, as I was scared to muck them up. But this time I remembered the base ingredients, and used a bit more of my intuition, and I must say they worked quite well!
I will post the recipe and photos soon, but for the moment it was so nice to have a baking day and have some lovely warm treats at the end of it. Plus we have friends dropping around this afternoon, so it will be nice to share them with them - if I can keep the HTC away from them long enough to have any left that is!
Ooh and on another note, my poppies are nearly all out now, so will take another photo to post soon - they are gorgeous!
