Why do so many of your excuses involve Finland?

Nothing like some chic flick goodness!! The HTC was at farewell drinks last friday night, so I decided it would be a perfect opportunity to grab a couple of DVDs that *I* wanted to see without any eye rolling or huffing and puffing, or sideways glances at the latest Jason Statham flick.

So with the Monkey in bed, Muttley at my feet and curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and my quilt, I started with this:

All I really knew of the story was a little I picked up from reading one of the books that came after this - Shopoholic and Baby. Although then again it's not like it's the most difficult storyline to pick up really!

I did really enjoy it though, Isla Fischer plays the impulsive woman who can't help herself really well and I loved the character of Luke as well, not too shabby on the eyes either which helped! A bit of light romantic comedy fit the bill perfectly, and of course you would never guess whether they would end up together in the end or not....

To be honest, my intention was to watch the second DVD that night as well but I thought I would be a good Wife-Type-Creature and see if the HTC wanted to watch it with me the following day considering Charlotte Johansson is in it. (He still hasn't forgiven me for watching 'He's just not that into you' on my own after finding out he missed out on two of his top ten ladies ever (although Jennifer Connolly I just don't get!) on screen in their underwear within about 30 seconds of each other. I must admit I did get a little bit of sick pleasure telling him that. See, sometimes it pays to watch a romatic comedy with your wife!!!)

So how does the HTC repay this wonderful kindness on my part?? Making me wait another whole day to watch it, and then promptly falling asleep ten minutes into it - not to mention wanting me to fill in all the plot when he wakes up five minutes from the end and doesn't understand what is going on. ARGH. I deserve a medal sometimes I tell you.

Hmmm small digression there. But anyway, here was my second DVD which I ended up watching mostly on my own anyway!

I didn't realise this was a Woody Allen film until I saw the opening credits, although that did explain why I had heard a lot about it for what seemed like a pretty simple movie. I must admit I nearly gave up on this about half an hour into it, the narrator's voice grated on my nerves no end and it all seemed really fake and trying oh so hard to be cool (Woody Allen? Never!)

But I did get drawn into this once Penelope Cruz was on screen, and quite liked the story of the relationships within it, and how the two friends dealt with their feelings. Although putting it up against Match Point which I watched recently, I didn't find it as powerful or clever.

But all in all, not a bad couple of DVD choices - I should remember to do it more often I think!

Yes, it really is bliss!!

HTC = Husband Type Creature, I couldn't remember where it came from but I saw something the other night that reminded me it was a Simpsons reference of sorts I think? Can remember how now though ;)
